Mike Burgess
Chief Information Security Officer

Mike Burgess is the Chief Information Security Officer for Telstra, joining Telstra in February 2013. He leads Telstra’s Security Operations team that includes responsibility for Telstra’s Security Operations Centre (TSOC). Mike’s vision for cyber security has resulted in establishing unique Discovery and Influencing capabilities within Telstra Security Operations. These capabilities provide insights and opportunities within Telstra and are an integral part of Security Operations purpose to protect customer information. Mike also co-authored the Five Knows of Cyber Security, an easy, accessible approach that can be used to effectively manage the cyber security risk from the Board down.

Previously Mike was the Deputy Director for Cyber & Information Security at the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD). This role was created in 2008 reflecting the growing importance of DSD’s role as the Commonwealth authority on information security, and the increasing challenge of securing Government information against unauthorised network intrusions.

Mike led the establishment of the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) at DSD in 2009 and oversaw its development into a key cyber capability for Government. The CSOC brought together capabilities from across Government to deliver a greater understanding of the cyber threat against Australian interests, and provided response options for significant cyber events across government and systems of national importance.

Mike has a degree in Electronics Engineering from the South Australian Institute of Technology. He worked in private industry before joining the Defence Science and Technology Organisation working in the field of imaging radar. Mike joined DSD as a collection engineer in 1995. In his career at DSD, Mike held a variety of roles spanning the intelligence, security, capability development and executive aspects of DSD's business.

Greg Yanco
Senior Executive Leader, Market & Participant Supervision
ASIC

Greg Yanco has held the position of Senior Executive Leader of the Market & Participant Supervision team at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) since 2008. The Market & Participant Supervision team has responsibility for market surveillance and overseeing compliance by market participants with the Corporations Act, their Australian Financial Services licence conditions and the ASIC market integrity rules.

Greg served as NSW Regional Commissioner for ASIC (2008-2012) and has led some of ASIC's largest programmes, including the transfer of market supervision from the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) to ASIC, and the implementation of ASIC's new integrated market surveillance system. He also played a major role in the introduction of market competition in Australia. Greg sits on ASIC's Technology Governance Board and is an active member of the Market Supervision Advisory Panel, the International Organization of Securities Commission's (IOSCO) Committee 3 and the Intermarket Surveillance Group.

Greg is former Chief Executive Officer of AXE ECN, a joint venture formed to provide an alternative venue to trade Australian listed securities. Prior to this Greg was at the ASX (1986-2006), where he managed diversified teams within the regulatory and commercial environments covering market structure and product management, client relations, market surveillance and broker compliance.

Craig James
Chief Economist
Commonwealth Securities

Craig's current role is Chief Economist, Commonwealth Securities, interpreting 'big picture' economic and financial trends for customers, clients and staff. Previously he was Chief Economist at Colonial and has worked at the Australian Financial Review as a senior writer.

As well as providing presentations to staff and clients and commentaries on financial and economic trends, Craig appears regularly in the electronic and print media.

He has been working in banking, finance and journalism for over 34 years.

He holds both Bachelor and Master degrees in Commerce (Economics). Both degrees were undertaken at University of NSW.

In February 2012 he was appointed an Adjunct Professor at Curtin Business School in Perth.

He is married with three teenage children and currently lives in Drummoyne in the inner west of Sydney. Chief interest is athletics and trying to keeping up with the children.

Daniel Amor

Dan runs the Citi Futures Electronic Trading Services (ETS) desk for AsiaPac based in Sydney. His responsibilities cover product distribution, execution consultation, connectivity, risk management and controls across all electronic flows for listed derivatives products – FI, Indexes, Commodities and Currencies.

He has been with Citi since 2010 and has worked in the Futures industry since 1993 starting on the Sydney Futures Exchange.

Oliver Berry

Director, Institutional Sales Specialist, Oliver is responsible for the development and management of the institutional arm of the exchange traded fund (ETF) business.

Oliver joined BlackRock in 2008 from Bank of New York Mellon, where his responsibilities included building relationships with institutional clients across Australia, Asia and Europe. He has also held positions with Saudi International Bank as Head of Technical Trading and Daiwa Securities as an Executive Director.

Oliver has over 16 years' experience in financial services across three continents, and brings to iShares a wealth of knowledge around international markets.

Oliver holds a BSC from The London School of Economics and a MA from University of London.

Andrew Briscoe

Andrew Briscoe is a Senior Equity Dealer for First State Investments. In his role, Andrew covers the equity dealing for East Asia, Australia and New Zealand markets as well as the global futures and portfolio dealing for each of the global investment teams. Andrew has over 10 years of investment industry experience. Prior to joining CFSGAM in February 2010, Andrew worked as a buy-side equity dealer for Macquarie Funds Management and began his career working on the sell-side equity execution desks at ABN AMRO and Wilson HTM. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Business degree from Queensland University of Technology, with a double major in Banking and Finance. He also has a Masters of Applied Finance and Investment from Kaplan Professional.

Eugene Budovsky

Eugene Budovsky runs the Autobahn Equities electronic execution platform in Australia and New Zealand, and has responsibilities that cover sales, trading, connectivity, and product development. He has been with Deutsche Bank since 2009, prior to which he held a trading role with Citi in Sydney.

Eugene has 9 years front office experience in the Australian equities market with roles covering electronic execution, portfolio trading, facilitation, and ETF market making.

Carole Comerton-Forde

Carole Comerton-Forde is Professor of Finance at the University of Melbourne. Her research is in the area of market structure, with a focus on market liquidity and market integrity. Her current interests include the impact of high frequency trading and dark pools on market quality. Her research has been published in leading academic journals including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. Carole has previously held academic positions at the Australian National University and University of Sydney, and visiting positions at New York University and the London School of Economics and Political Science. She was also Visiting Economist at the New York Stock Exchange. She has also acted as a consultant for a number of stock exchanges and market regulators around the world. She is currently an economic consultant for the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

Dion Cooney

Dion Cooney is MD - Head of Cash and Portfolio Trading Asia Pacific, based in Sydney. He is responsible for Australian sales operations and also co-ordinates Asia-wide Portfolio trading into the region. He has worked for ITG for over 15 years, including four years based in New York heading up the global portfolio sales and trading business. Prior to joining ITG he held equity trading roles at CIBC and L&C Baillieu in Sydney.

Brandon DeCoster

Brandon DeCoster is the Vice President of Product Management for FIX Flyer LLC, and is a specialist in production operations and the FIX Protocol. Brandon studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology, earning a BS in Information Technology in 2005, and worked for years as a software engineer at IBM. He entered the financials in 2007 as an engineer for Pipeline Financial Group, supporting their dark matching engine and algorithmic equities trading, and is an avid student of game theory, a topic on which he lectures widely.

Michael Drake

Before Symphony, Michael worked as the Asia Regional Director for REDI Technologies, and prior to that, with Goldman Sachs for seven years in its New York, Tokyo, and Hong Kong offices, focusing on execution sales, product development, and marketing for its electronic trading division. Michael holds a BBA from The University of Texas at Austin's Red McCombs School of Business.

John Fildes

John Fildes is Chief Executive Officer of Chi-X Australia, joining the organisation in April 2013. He brings extensive experience in stockbroking, investing, market development, market infrastructure and market platforms in Australia and Asia.

Mr. Fildes previous roles include Director of Strategic Development for KCG Holding, Inc. and Managing Director and COO, Asia, of Instinet Pacific, where he oversaw regional operations for Instinet in Asia, including Japan. Before joining Instinet in 2006, John Fildes served at Morgan Stanley for 10 years in Hong Kong, where he held positions as the Head of Equity Marketing and Head of Electronic and Program Trading for Asia-Pacific.

Mr. Fildes has been closely involved with the development of the FIX Trading Community in Asia Pacific and has served as Director of FIX Trading Community, and is a former Board Member of the Stockbrokers Association of Australia.

Ofir Gefen is a Managing Director and Head of ITG's Electronic Brokerage offering in Asia Pacific. Mr. Gefen has worked at ITG for over 15 years and in this time has developed experience across all regions through roles in product development and execution services. Mike Googe

Mike Googe is the global head of Bloomberg's post-trade transaction cost analysis (TCA) product. Based in London, he has led the roll out of the firm's multi-asset TCA capabilities, incorporating fixed income and foreign exchange to deliver trading cost transparency, actionable insight for trading decision support and trading compliance surveillance capabilities. His role includes development of absolute and relative benchmarks, cost de-composition and integration of results into the wider Bloomberg terminal.

Mike Googe joined Bloomberg in 2009 as a TCA product specialist. He has more than 30 years industry experience in trading, execution consultancy and product development.

John Greenan

John Greenan is an independent consultant specialising in FIX and Electronic Trading for fixed income, foreign exchange, futures and equities. He is a member of the FIX Strategy committee and has worked with FIX since the late 90s.

Now based in Sydney he has previously worked with firms such as NAB, BNP Paribas, ABN Amro and JP Morgan.

James Hardcastle

James Hardcastle is Head of Sales for Fidessa in Australia where he has been based since November 2011. James joined Fidessa in 1998 as a Technical Consultant based in London and worked on projects for numerous tier-one investment banks across Europe. Prior to Sydney James was based at Fidessa’s Tokyo office, where he lived for 12 years, and was most recently Head of International Sales. In addition to his role with Fidessa James is also Co-Chair of the FIX Trading Community Australia Working Group committee actively involved in the adoption and promotion of all things FIX culminating in the annual conference held in October each year. James has a BSc Honours degree in Computer Science & Business Studies from Anglia Ruskin University in the UK, and in his spare time enjoys running, cycling and travelling.

Oliver Harvey

Oliver leads ASIC's Financial Market Infrastructure team, and has primary ASIC responsibility for oversight of market infrastructure, such as financial market operators and clearing & settlement facilities. Of recent times, his work has had a particular focus on innovations and developments across the whole area of financial markets, including OTC derivative reform following the global financial crisis. Prior to joining ASIC, Oliver worked with McKinsey & Company in their New York Office, in the Global Corporate & Institutional Banking Practice. In that role, Oliver served a number of clients, including large exchanges, investment banks and professional services firms. Oliver is a qualified lawyer and commenced his career with a major international law firm.

Ben Jefferys

Ben joined IRESS in 2010 and his role as Head of Trading Solutions oversees all aspects of trading technology including solution design, regulation change, connectivity, smart order routing and dark pools. Ben has also played an integral role working with regulators, exchanges and clients in developing the multi-market capabilities at IRESS. Prior to joining IRESS, Ben has worked in similar roles at Saxo Bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and MF Global in London and Sydney.

Chris Jenkins

Chris joined TORA in 2006 as Managing Director for the Asia Pacific region. Chris has been in the industry for over 18 years, 12 of these in Asia.

TORA is a provider of asset management technology including EMS, OMS and Portfolio Management and Risk systems, algorithmic strategies and off market liquidity. Prior to joining TORA, Chris worked in Hong Kong at SWIFT, where he managed the Asian FIX sales team. Before SWIFT, Chris worked for Macgregor, a U.S. based order management system (OMS) provider. Chris also worked for AXA Investment Managers and HSBC Stockbroking in London.

Chris has previously served as Co-Chair of the Asia-Pacific Committee for FIX Trading Community, and had been instrumental in expanding the use of electronic trading throughout Asia.

Gabriel Kan

Gabriel is a quantitative analyst in the algorithmic trading group of Bloomberg Tradebook. He is responsible for developing algorithmic trading strategies across global markets, with particular focus on the APAC region. Additionally, he analyzes market microstructure across Equities, Futures and FX, and reviews TCA. Gabriel holds a BS in Math and MS in Financial Engineering from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Operations Research from Columbia University.

Joe Kassel

Joe Kassel has over 25 years' experience trading in institutional financial markets both in Australia and globally.

Joe graduated from Sydney University in 1989 with a BA majoring in pure mathematics before commencing his first trading role for Barclays de Zoete Wedd as a futures floor trader in index futures and options on the Sydney Futures Exchange in 1990.

Joe moved to Bankers Trust Australia in 1992 as an institutional advisor in equities and equity derivatives and then to BT Funds Management in 1997 where he took responsibility for European, US and then Asian trading.

In 2002 Joe moved to the UK to take the role of Director and Head Trader for global equities for Principal Global Investors returning to Australia with Citigroup in 2007.

Joe's role at Citi was as a Director in the firm's market leading transition management team and in this role he was closely involved in many of the region's largest and most complex asset re-organizations.

Joe joined his current firm, AMP Capital Investors, in 2009 taking responsibility for global Toshin Fund trading and led the creation of the global dealing capability for AMP Capital's REIT and listed infrastructure joint venture with Brookfield.

In 2014 Joe moved into his current role with the firm as Global Head of Dealing and Exposure Management. In this role Joe oversees a global team responsible for all dealing in liquid assets as well as rebalancing and exposure management of the firm’s range of multi asset funds.

Before that he worked at STAC Research in its early days following more years than he cares to admit at Reuters (now Thomson Reuters) in Geneva.

Vidyadhar Kothekar

As a technical leader, Vidyadhar have successfully lead and delivered large scale IT solutions across Front, Middle and Back Office both within Buy and Sell side firms. Matthew Lempriere

With more than 20 years of sales and account management experience in the financial and telco industries, Lempriere has in-depth specialist knowledge in the delivery of electronic trading and information applications to the banking industry. Before joining Telstra Global, he was the Head of BT Radianz for Asia Pacific.

Edward Mangles

Mr. Edward Mangles is the founder and Publisher of GlobalTrading, the official publication of the FIX Trading Community. He has a long history within the financial technology sector and has worked closely with FIX Trading Community for a number of years. He has supported the organisation’s Asia Pacific committee for the past 12 years, playing a key role in promoting FIX adoption across the region. He has also worked for leading financial publishing and marketing firms in both London and Hong Kong. Sam Willis

Sam has more than 14 years' experience in trading international equities.
