Mark Adams
Senior Executive, Exchange Market Operators
ASIC

Mr. Mark Adams is Senior Executive Leader, Exchange Market Operators at ASIC. Before this he has held the positions of Director, International Relations and Regulatory Policy and Research at ASIC.

The Exchange Market Operators' team is responsible for the supervision of operators of financial market and clearing and settlement facilities. The team also advises the Minister on applications for markets' licences and exemptions and operating rule changes. Mark is responsible for ASIC's project team on the implementation of competition in market services.

In his previous roles Mark led:
• negotiations with a number of foreign regulators to progress a range of regulatory recognition arrangements, in particular with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the USA and the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong; and
• ASIC's policy build for the implementation of the Financial Services Reform Act 2001 and the Managed Investments Act 1998.

Prior to joining ASIC, Mark was a solicitor at Blake Dawson Waldron, Sydney.

Richard Coggins
Head of Algorithmic Trading
Citigroup Australia

Richard Coggins is currently head of Citi's Australian algorithmic trading team, developing equity trading products and analytics for the Australian equity market. He has also developed products for Asian markets including Japan and Hong Kong.

Richard has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sydney, and has published in 9 international journals in both finance and engineering. Prior to joining Citigroup, Richard was a senior lecturer and researcher in finance at the University of Sydney and a research leader at the Australian Capital Markets Co-operative Research Centre. His research encompassed market microstructure, quantitative trading models, time series and optimal control. He has taught courses in broking and market making, corporate finance, software and hardware engineering and consulted on quantitative trading strategies.

John Fildes
Co-Chair FPL Asia Pacific Regional Committee, and
Director of Strategic Development, GETCO Asia

E. John Fildes is Director of Strategic Development for GETCO Asia, where he is responsible for relationships with exchanges, regulators and market participants across the region as well as driving the company’s high-frequency trading and market-making strategies in Asian markets.

Previously he was Managing Director and COO, Asia, of Instinet Pacific, responsible for all the operations of Instinet in Asia including Japan. Prior to joining Instinet in 2006 he was with Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong for 10 years where he held positions as the Head of Equity Marketing and Head of Electronic and Program Trading for Asia-Pacific. Before that he was the Head of MSCI for Asia Pacific and was actively involved in the launch of MSCI futures contracts for Taiwan and Singapore on SIMEX. He is the Co-Chair FPL Asia Pacific Regional Committee, and former Board Member of the Stockbrokers Association of Australia.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley Mr. Fildes held various positions in Europe with the Financial Times, Standard and Poor¹s and Reuters.

Mr. Fildes studied Law at the University of Liverpool.

Professor Alex Frino
Chief Executive Officer
Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre (CMCRC)

Alex Frino is a Professor of Finance at the University of Sydney. He has a PhD in Finance from the University of Sydney and a Master of Philosophy in Finance from Cambridge University. Alex has strong links with both capital markets industry and academia in Australia and internationally and is a major advocate and motivator for closer collaboration between the two. Alex has published more than 100 research papers and one book and he has held visiting appointments at the Sydney Futures Exchange and Credit Suisse First Boston. He is a Certified Practising Accountant and serves on the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Australian Securities Exchange.

Steve Grob
Director of Group Strategy
Fidessa

Steve is responsible for Fidessa's strategic development. This includes the development of new geographic markets and strategic partnerships and driving new industry initiatives.

As part of this Steve heads up the firm’s strategy in response to the fragmentation of the equities trading landscape, managing the firm's initiatives in conjunction with both the established exchanges and the new and emerging alternative liquidity venues and dark pools. Steve has also played a significant part in bringing the Fidessa Fragmentation Index (FFI), the Fragulator® and the Tradalyzer™ to the wider trading community. He provides a regular commentary on the issues surrounding fragmentation of the markets on the community forum that was launched at the end of 2008.

On joining Fidessa in 2004 Steve led the development of the company's multi-asset trading capabilities. For four years, he worked to extend the core strengths of the Fidessa platform and ensure that all enhancements support an asset agnostic architecture to deliver multi- and cross-asset trading across its product lines globally.

Prior to joining Fidessa Steve was the founder and CEO of specialist derivatives software house Future Dynamics which was one of the companies at the vanguard of the shift from open outcry to screen based trading in world derivatives markets. This business grew to be one of the major facilitators of workflow based derivatives trading and was eventually sold in 2004.

Paul Hilgers
Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific
Optiver

Paul Hilgers started his career in 1992 as a trader for Amsterdam Options Trader, a market maker in Germany on the German and Swiss derivative market. Between 1997 and 2003 he was the Managing Director of Van der Moolen in Germany, responsible for the German and Swiss market. In 2003 Paul was transferred to Amsterdam to run the European trading desk at Van der Moolen.

Paul moved to Sydney in 2005, taking on the role of Commercial Director for Fortis Clearing Asia Pacific. In 2007 Paul joined Optiver as the Director of Market Structure, Asia Pacific and was promoted to CEO of Asia Pacific in January 2010. Subsequently he also joined the Global Management Board of Optiver.

Ben Jefferys

Iress Market Technology

Ben Jefferys commenced with IRESS early in 2010 working in the area of Strategic Solutions where he plays an active part of new development projects and major client initiatives. Based in Sydney Ben is overseeing the adaptation of smart order routing and dark pool technologies in Australia. Over the years Ben has worked in a variety of roles with electronic trading and order routing as a focus both in Sydney and London.

Chris Jenkins
Managing Director, Sales and Operations, Asia Pacific
Tora Trading

Chris joined Tora in 2006 as Managing Director, Sales and Operations, Asia Pacific where he heads up Tora’s development across clients in Asia. Tora is Asia’s leading provider of advanced technology and financial services with a full suite of trade execution capabilities to access markets across Asia, North America and Europe. Prior to joining Tora, Chris managed SWIFT’s Asian FIX sales team out of Hong Kong and was previously with Macgregor, a U.S. based order management system (OMS) provider. In total, Chris has over 16 years of experience in finance with 8 of these based in Asia. In addition, Chris was the Co-Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Committee for FIX Protocol Limited in 2010, and has been instrumental in expanding the use of electronic trading throughout Asia.

Jason Keady
Director, Markets & Operations
Chi-X Australia

Jason is the Director of Markets & Operations at Chi-X Australia, which includes responsibility for business development, operations and market structure development.

Prior to joining Chi-X, Jason was a Senior Partner at FiNETIK Partners, a financial markets consulting and advisory business specialising in the markets of the Asian region and before that he worked at ASX for over 10 years in a number of senior executive roles.

Richard Kimber
Global Head of Equities & Global Head of eCommerce
Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited

As Global Head of Equities, Richard Kimber leads the team responsible for providing ANZ customers with a broad range of equity products including equity derivatives, structured equity, exchange listed equity and hybrids.

In his role as Head of eCommerce, Richard is responsible for the development and expansion of Global Markets' electronic commerce capability - a critical distribution channel for growing the business.

As a global leader in the technology and financial services industries, Richard has successfully led start up businesses and large regulated organisations in the USA, Europe, Asia Pacific and Australia.

He joined ANZ in 2010 after three years with Friendster Inc - a social networking site with over 100 million users – where as Chief Executive he was responsible for revitalising the business and building new sources of revenue. Richard successfully led the trade sale of Friendster.

Prior to this Richard was the Regional Managing Director at Google, responsible for operations and strategic growth across South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea.

From 1998 to 2006, Richard held numerous roles at HSBC, most recently as Chief Executive for FirstDirect Bank in the UK, an HSBC subsidiary. Prior to this he served as Global Head of e-Marketing and CEO of HSBC's Internet Payment Services. He also founded and led the start up of HSBC's InvestDirect Australia, an online stockbroking firm.

Richard has also worked for the Australian Stock Exchange, Macquarie Bank and Westpac.

Jason Lapping
Head of Asia Pacific Trading
Dimensional (Australia)

Jason Lapping heads Dimensional’s equity trading desk for the Asia Pacific. His focus is in ensuring the firm’s execution strategies and technological infrastructure region meet the highest standards in the region.

Originally from South Africa, Jason studied economics at the University of Cape Town, before moving to London to start his career in the financial sector.

At Dimensional, he brings deep knowledge and experience of global markets, including the unique microstructure of those in the Asia Pacific. This experience was garnered over 15 years working around the world with Societe Generale in their equities derivatives division and heading desks in London, Paris, Hong Kong and Australia.

Reporting to Glenn Crane in Sydney, Jason works with a local team of six traders and is an integral part of an international trading network headed by the London-based John Romiza.

Glenn Lesko
Chief Executive Officer
Instinet Asia

Glenn Lesko is CEO of Instinet in Asia, and is responsible for the firm's business units - Instinet Japan Limited, Instinet Pacific Limited, Instinet Singapore Services Private Limited and Instinet Australia Pty Limited - in the region.

Mr. Lesko, a CFA charterholder, previously headed Instinet's U.S.-based International Trading Group. Mr. Lesko joined Instinet in 2006 from CF Global Trading, where he had served as a partner since 2003, and before that, served two years as a managing director at Deutsche Bank, directing the firm’s international trading desk. Prior to that, Mr. Lesko spent 10 years at ABN AMRO and its affiliates, first heading its Asian trading desk in Hong Kong and later its international trading desk in New York.

Edward Mangles
Regional Director, Asia Pacific, FIX Protocol Ltd, and
Director, FIXGlobal

Mr. Edward Mangles is the founder and Publisher of FIXGlobal, the official publication of the FIX Protocol. He has a long history within the financial technology sector and has worked closely with FPL for a number of years. He has supported the organisation’s Asia Pacific committee for the past 9 years, playing a key role in promoting FIX adoption across the region. He has also worked for leading financial publishing and marketing firms in both London and Hong Kong. In March 09 Mr. Edward Mangles was appointed FPL Asia Pacific Regional Director.

Stuart McWilliam

Stuart is the Head of Electronic Execution for Macquarie Securities Australia and is responsible for their dark pool and electronic execution business. Previous to joining Macquarie Stuart spent 5 years in London, nearly 4 of those with ITG managing their electronic product suite in a fragmenting European market.

Richard Murphy

Richard has responsibility for development of the ASX equity business, including listing & trading across cash equities, listed funds, warrants and structured products, and equity and index options

Richard has held a range of positions across ASX listing, trading and derivatives businesses. Before coming to Australia in 1992 he worked for the Financial Times in London.

Will is Head of Trading, Australian Equities. Will joined Schroders in September 2004 from ING Investment Management Asia Pacific.

Emma Quinn

Ms. Quinn earned a Bachelor of Business (Finance and Law) from the University of Technology, Sydney. She started her career in finance with AMP Henderson Global Investors. In 2001, she joined a Alliance Capital as a senior trader. She became Head of Trading for AllianceBernstein Australia 2009 and in 2011 saw her responsibilities expand to include regional fixed income.

Emma is co-chair FIX Protocol Limited- Australia Working Group and is currently a member of the Sydney Advisory Board for Quorum 15. Emma was inaugural chairperson of the Buy-side Traders' advisory board and an active member of the ASX Buy-side Traders' Forum.

Emma has featured in industry publications including FIXGlobal and The Trade Asia. She has also participated in numerous conferences including FPL conferences, Australasian Investor Relations Associations and TradeTech.

Ben Radclyffe
Co-Chair FPL Australia Working Group, and
Head of Electronic Trading, Australia, Deutsche Bank

Ben is responsible for Deutsche Bank's HFT, DMA and Algorithmic Trading products in Australia. He has over 10 years of experience in global electronic trading in both front office and technology roles and is currently the Co-Chair of the Australian FPL working group.

David Raper
General Manager of Trade Execution and Information Services

David has responsibility for trade execution, information and connectivity at ASX. This includes services such as colocation and the ASX Best smart order router.

Steven Sydney Wood

Steven is the founder of Global Buy Side Trading Consultants Limited, a consulting company focused on buy-side firms. Steven was the Global Head of Trading at Schroders Investment Management from 2002 to 2010. Prior to that, Steven worked in JP Morgan for 28 years trading in Equities, Fixed Income, FX and Derivatives. He also played a key role in setting up the Emerging Markets Trading team and held the positions as Head of trading in London and Asian trading out of Tokyo.

Steven is a member of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) Consultative Working Group on Secondary Markets reporting to the Standing Committee on Secondary Markets. He is a Non Executive Member of the Board of Directors at Investment Technology Group, Inc and a Non-Executive Director Board Member of Olivetree Securities Ltd.

He was previously the Chairman of the Investment Managers Association Trading Committee and the Chairman of the NYSE / Euronext. Steven was also the member of the advisory committee of Liquidnet, Turquoise and LSE/Baikal.
